P2’s Paint The Whole Playground!

Today our P2’s were super messy. They were able to spread out all over the playground and  paint everywhere and anywhere,  consequence free.  Mark making on the tables, the ground, making footprings, hand prints and splashing in puddles.   Painting with water is a great way to work collaboratively, experiment with brushes and the strokes they make and getting ideas out quickly without worrying about making mistakes.

P2’s Continue Drawing Human Figures.

Central idea: Art has binding relationships between culture and society

This week the P2’s have been continuing their inquiry into human bodies and how they look from different angles.  We used some digital models on the interactive white board from art programs Poser 10 and Manga Studio. We arranged the figures into the positions we wanted to record.  We then did quick 3 minute sketches trying to capture the overall posture and proportions of the figures.

I made a video to give the students a few colouring tips before we started the activity in class.  I thought I should share this on the blog as it might be helpful.

Painting Birds by P2

It’s Spring time and birds are chirping.  At least this is what the P2’s will be singing about during their Spring Performance. As a back drop to their song the P2’s have been painting some beautiful birds!

P2’s Solve problems through thinking Critically and Imaginatively

Central idea: Art has binding relationships between culture and society

Our P2 Visual Scope and Sequence: Students can solve problems during the creative process by thinking critically and imaginatively.

Today’s activity was designed to give our students the opportunity to demonstrate control of tools and materials as well as make predictions, experiment and anticipate possible outcomes.

The P2’s were given different materials and tasks to complete within a limited time.  They had to work in teams of 3 to 5 and collaborate in designing and building different structures with individual purposes.   Their first task was to build the tallest structure possible that could stand independently.  Then to build a structure that could hold up a cup of water independently.  Then finally to build a structure that could hold a long piece of string high off the ground like a bridge.

P2’s learn the style of a famous Illustrator

Central idea: Art has binding relationships between culture and society

Most children love drawing and painting animals.  But what if you were restricted to making these pictures using only thumb prints as well as simple black lines and shapes? We have been looking at children’s illustrator Ed Emberley the creator of ‘Go Away Big Green Monster’. We decided to enter Emberley’s world and see how well we could represent different animals with these new limitations. By carrying out this fun task the P2’s were encouraged to pay attention to detail, to be precise with their mark making and to view the world differently.

If you would like to try making this at home you may download the PDF file Animal Thumb Prints made by Mr. Gadbury. Good luck, have fun and please come and show me what you have created!
